Spring Fling: Burg Biergarten, Food Truck Rodeo, Dog-Friendly Sunday Among New Additions
Holliday Brewing will be participating in this year’s Spring Fling Biergarten!
Spring Fling will be held next weekend — April 26-28 — and event organizers gathered Wednesday morning at Denny’s Plaza to announce some of the plans for this year’s edition of downtown Spartanburg’s biggest annual festival.
“There really is something for everyone,” said Mandy Merck, special events manager for the city of Spartanburg. “That sounds like a cliché, but there really is something for everyone. If you come to Spring Fling and can’t find something you like, something’s wrong, because it really is more than your average street fest.”
Merck said Spring Fling started in 1978 as a one-day event with a shoestring budget before transforming into a three-day festival that now has an annual budget of nearly $300,000 and features a wide array of family-friendly entertainment, including everything from music performances and crafts vendors to a cornhole tournament and a 300-foot zip line.
Spring Fling “is our longest-running festival, and I think what it means these days is a lot different from what it meant back when it started,” said city spokesman Christopher George. “Back then, it was about bringing people to the downtown area, which we don’t really have to do as much any more.
